UGC-NET 2017 is conducted for the determination of Eligibility for Junior research fellowship or Assistant Professor and the eligibility for the assistant professor in indian colleges and universities.On the behalf of University Grants Commission, CBSE is conducting UGC-NET 2017.
The eligible candidates can apply from 11 th august to 11 nth September 2017.
UGC-NET 2017 Eligibility for Lectureships/Junior Research Fellowship
CBSE holds the NET (National Eligibility test) on the behalf of UGC on 5 th November 2017. NET will be conducted in 84 subjects at 90 cities.
Eligibility for Assistant professor and JRF or Eligibility for Assistant professor will be awarded on the basis of their performance in three papers of national eligibility test.
IITs, other national organizations, universities and institutions may select JRF awardees for full time research work with the procedure prescribed.
JRF (Junior Research Fellowship)
Candidates making it to the award of JRF by their qualifying will be eligible for the various fellowships under UGC, that is getting their placements in IITs, Universities and Institutions.
There is also a validity period of 2 years from the date of issue of the award.
In case, candidates who have joined Phd/MPhil already, the date of the start of their fellowship will be from the date of declaration of the result or from the date of joining.
UGC-Net 2017 Application Form
Adhar card is needed to apply.
The candidates need following documents before applying:-
- 5 cm (width) x 4.5 cm (Height) size of photograph in jpeg format.
- 5 cm (width) x 1.5 cm (height) size of signature in jpg format from 4 kb to 30 kb.
- There are various modes of payment after the form-filling, you can pay by crdit/debit card or through e-challan.
- Candidates are also required to bring a photo ID with the print out of the admission card on the day of exam.
- Before filling the application form, the candidates are required to go through the information brochure available on cbsenet.nic.in.
- The candidates must also ensure the eligibility before filling the application form.

UGC-NET 2017 Scheme and Exam Schedule:-
The test will be conducted on 5 th November, 2017 with 3 papers which will have only Objective type questions.
First (Paper-I): 100 Marks (50 out of which 50 questions all are compulsory) [Duration: 1¼ Hours (09.30 am to 10.45 am, IST)]
Second (Paper-II): 100 Marks (50 questions all are compulsory) [Duration: 1¼ Hours (11.15 am to 12.30 pm, IST)]
Third (Paper-III): 150 Marks (75 questions all are compulsory) [Duration: 2½ Hours (02.00 pm to 04.30 pm, IST)]
Paper-II and Paper-III ‘s all the questions will be compulsory, covering complete syllabus (including all electives, without options)
In, Paper-I, Paper-II and Paper-III will have to mark responses on OMR sheet.
UGC NET Eligibility Criteria
- i) Candidates who have secured 55 % in their masters in their Master’s degree from a recognized university in Humanities, Social Science, Computer Science and its applications, etc.
OBC category has a relaxation of 5 percent and it comes to 50 % for them.
- ii) Candidates who are in final year and their result is awaiting can also apply for the test with the same percentage standard in point i).
iii) The PHD degree holders with their masters degree completed on or before 19 th September 1991, can also apply for the test with the relaxation of 5 % in their degree making it 50 % for them.
- iv) Candidates can apply only in their subject of their post graduation.
Age Limit & Relaxation
- i) Junior Research Fellowship: Not more than 28 years as on 1st November 2017.
A relaxation up to 5 years is provided to the candidates belonging to OBC (Non- creamy layer, as per the Central list of OBC available on website www.ncbc.nic.in) SC/ST/PWD categories and to women applicants
Relaxation will also be provided to the candidates having research experience, limited to the period spent on research in the relevant/related subject of post-graduation degree, subject to a maximum of 5 years, on production of a certificate from appropriate authority
3-years relaxation in age will be permissible to the candidates possessing LLM Degree. Total age relaxation on the above ground(s) shall not exceed five years under any circumstances
- ii) Assistant Professor: There is no upper age limit for applying for eligibility for Assistant Professor
Exemption (Eligibility for Assistant Professor)
NET/SLET/SET shall remain the minimum eligibility condition for recruitment and appointment of Assistant Professors in Universities/Colleges/Institutions. Provided however, that candidates, who are or have been awarded a PhD degree in accordance with the UGC Regulations, 2009, shall be exempted from the requirement of the minimum eligibility condition of NET/SELT/SET for recruitment and appointment of Assistant Professor or equivalent positions in Universities/Colleges/Institutions
Candidates who have passed the UGC/CSIR JRF Exam prior to 1989 are also exempted from appearing in NET
For SET Candidates: The candidates who have cleared the States Eligibility Test (SET) accredited by UGC for eligibility for Assistant Professor held prior to 01st June 2002, are exempted from appearing in NET, being eligible
For SET held from 01st June 2002 onwards, the qualified candidates are eligible to apply for the post of Assistant Professor only in the universities/colleges situated in the state from where they have cleared their SET
*The candidates with Master’s Degree in Geography (with specialization in Population Studies) or Mathematics/Statistics are also eligible to appear in the subject “Population Studies” (Code 15)
**The candidates with Master’s Degree in Humanities (including languages) and Social Sciences are eligible to appear in the subject ‘Women Studies’ (Code 74).
Admit Card for NET November 2017:
It may be noted that the admission card will be uploaded on the website www.cbsenet.nic.in in the 21st December 2016.No admission cards will be sent to the candidates by post
Candidates should download their admission cards from the website to ascertain their venue of the Test as mentioned in the Admission Card and appear in the exam only at the designated exam center
