16 Exams Delayed by NTA Since 2018: Ministry of Education informed the Lok Sabha

DELHI: On Monday 22,
2024 at Lok Sabha the topic of discussion was the NTA's credibility to conduct
examination and its past issues and exam postponement. The Ministry of
Education informed the Lok Sabha about the National Testing Agency (NTA) postponement
of nearly 16 exams for different reasons since its origination in 2018.
The
information was represented by Minister of State for Education Sukanta Majumdar
in response to a written question in Lok Sabha asked by DMK MP Kanimozhi
Karunanidhi. The reasons for postponement listed by the Ministry of Education are
the COVID-19 pandemic, administrative reasons, logistical reasons, and
technical issues.
Saying about
the adequacy of NTA until now it had conducted more than 240 examinations
making participation of candidates over 5.4 crore in both CBT and pen paper

"Since
most of the examinations conducted by NTA are held in multiple subjects, multiple
shifts and span over a number of days, there have been instances due to
unforeseen circumstances like the COVID-19 pandemic, logistical and technical
issues, administrative issues, legal orders etc, when examination dates
initially notified in respect of specific subjects or shifts could not be
adhered to," stated by Minister.
From the
data shared by the ministry, it is informed that- JEE-Main (2020-2021), NEET-UG
(2020-2021), All India Ayush Post Graduate Entrance Test (AIAPGET), 2021, and
Joint Integrated Programme in Management Admission Test (JIPMAT), 2021, were
postponed due to COVID-19 pandemic.
The Delhi
University Entrance Test (DUET) 2020 for UG, PG-MPhil, and PhD admission was
delayed because DU suspended the registration process due to the COVID-19
pandemic.
CSIR UGC-NET
(2020), UGC-NET (December 2020), UGC-NET (May 2021) and Indian Council of
Agricultural Research (ICAR) AIEEA (2020) were postponed due to "COVID-19 pandemic
and logistical challenges.
The Common
Management Admission Test (CMAT)-2021 was delayed because the AICTE revised the
examination pattern.
IGNOU PhD
Entrance was postponed in 2022 for administrative reasons.
The Graduate
Aptitude Test Biotechnology (GAT-B) 2023 was postponed following consultations
with regional biotechnology centres.
In 2024, the National Common Entrance Test (NCET) was postponed because of technical issues, and the CSIR-NET, 2024, was postponed due to logistic issues.
“NTA has
started the declaration of the examination calendar of major examinations, much
in advance for the facilitation of candidates. The examination calendar is
planned taking into consideration, buffer days to accommodate reschedules and
postponements for reasons beyond the control of NTA," stated by Minister.
The
Opposition is calling for the resignation of Union education minister
Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged irregularities in this year’s National
Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test. Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi stated during
question hour that the examination system has deep-seated problems.
During
Monday's session in the Lok Sabha, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan
assured that there has been no evidence of any paper leaks in the NEET exam
over the last 7 years. This declaration came in response to concerns raised by
opposition MPs regarding the NEET exam issue. (some of the statements of the education
