Candidates demand re-exam for NEET UG 2024

The Centre has informed the Supreme Court that candidates who received grace marks for NEET UG 2024 will be permitted to retake the exam on June 23. If they choose not to retake it, their original scores without the grace marks will be considered their final scores.The Supreme Court noted the Union government's statement on June 13 that the scorecards of 1,563 candidates who received compensatory marks in the NEET UG 2024 exam will be annulled. These candidates will have the opportunity to retake the exam, which is expected to be held on June 23.The Union government informed a Vacation Bench comprising Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta that the candidates will be notified of their actual scores, excluding the compensatory or grace marks. If they choose not to retake the test, their original scores without the grace marks will be considered their final scores.

The NTA informed the court that the retest results for NEET UG 2024 will likely be pronounced before June 30. This announcement is crucial as it facilitates the counselling process, which is set to begin on July 6. The timely release of results ensures that the counselling and admission processes remain on schedule, providing clarity and direction to thousands of aspirants. In response to petitions raising concerns about alleged malpractices during the NEET UG 2024 exam, the court issued a notice. These petitions have been tagged with other related cases that are set to be heard on July 8. The allegations include issues such as unfair means, paper leaks, and other discrepancies that may have affected the integrity of the examination. Among the petitions is one filed by Alakh Pandey, the CEO of Physicswallah, a popular online education platform. Pandey's involvement highlights the serious nature of the concerns raised. His petition underscores the need for transparency and fairness in the conduct of such a significant national exam.

NEET UG is not just an exam; it is a gateway to a medical career in India. With over a million candidates appearing each year, the competition is fierce. The exam assesses students' knowledge in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, ensuring that only the most qualified candidates gain admission to medical and dental colleges. Petitions have been filed to cancel NEET UG 2024 due to allegations of question paper leaks and other malpractices. The NTA conducted the exam on May 5 at 4,750 centers, with approximately 24 lakh candidates participating. Although the results were initially expected on June 14, they were announced on June 4 as the evaluation of the answer sheets was completed ahead of schedule. Allegations regarding the leak of question papers and the awarding of grace marks to over 1,500 NEET UG 2024 aspirants have sparked protests and led to cases being filed in seven high courts and the Supreme Court. An unprecedented 67 students scored a perfect 720, including six from a center in Faridabad, Haryana, which has raised suspicions of irregularities. It is claimed that grace marks contributed to 67 students achieving the top rank. The NTA conducts the NEET UG examination for admissions to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and other related courses in government and private institutions across the country. Many students were protesting against the NEET UG 2024 results, demanding a re-conduct of the examination. Today, the education minister announced that candidates who received grace marks in the results will have to appear in the NEET UG Re-Exam 2024, as their previous results are now considered invalid. Only the results from the re-exam will be considered valid.

Of the 1,563 candidates affected, only those who pass the re-exam will be eligible to participate in NEET Counselling 2024. The date for the NEET UG 2024 re-exam has been set for June 23, 2024, with results to be published online on June 30, 2024. As of now, the NTA has not issued any public notice on its official website. As soon as the NEET UG 2024 results were released, a significant change in the outcomes was noticed. Consequently, a large number of candidates began questioning the NTA. In response, the NTA issued a three-page public notice on June 6, 2024, addressing these concerns on the official NEET UG 2024 exam website at https://exams.nta.ac.in/NEET/. However, despite this, no one has accepted the NTA's explanations, and there are ongoing demands for an investigation into the results and a NEET UG 2024 retest.
