On Sunday, the CBI assumed control of the investigation into alleged irregularities in the NEET UG 2024 medical entrance exam. This development follows a directive from the Union education ministry. Concurrently, the Economic Offences Unit of the Bihar Police detained five more individuals.

CBI Involvement in NEET UG 2024 Probe

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) stepped in to handle the case due to its complexity and significance. The Union education ministry referred the case to the CBI to ensure a thorough and unbiased investigation. This move highlights the importance of maintaining the integrity of the NEET UG 2024 examination process.

As part of the ongoing investigation, the Economic Offences Unit of the Bihar Police arrested five additional suspects. This brings the total number of arrests related to the NEET UG 2024 irregularities to 18. These arrests are crucial for uncovering the extent of the alleged malpractices and ensuring justice.

Significance of the Investigation

The probe into NEET UG 2024 is pivotal for several reasons:

1. Ensuring Fairness: The investigation aims to uphold the fairness of the medical entrance examination.

2. Deterring Future Malpractices: A thorough investigation and subsequent legal actions can serve as a deterrent against future irregularities.

3. Maintaining Public Trust: Addressing these allegations transparently is essential for maintaining public confidence in the examination system.

Following the detection of malpractices, 17 students have been debarred from NEET UG 2024 centers in Bihar. Despite calls for the cancellation of the May 5 exam, ministry officials maintain that these incidents are localized.Authorities uncovered several instances of malpractice at NEET UG 2024 examination centers in Bihar. As a result, 17 students were barred from taking the exam. This decisive action underscores the commitment to maintaining the exam's integrity.

Ministry officials have reiterated the government's position on the matter, emphasizing that the malpractices detected were isolated incidents. They assured the public that the overall integrity of the NEET UG 2024 examination remains intact and that corrective actions are being taken to address the specific issues identified.

The awarding of grace marks has led to accusations of score inflation. Critics argue that this decision resulted in artificially higher marks for some candidates. These allegations have added to the controversy surrounding the NEET UG 2024 examination process. The six centers where the delays occurred have become focal points in this debate. The candidates from these centers benefited from the grace marks, which were intended to offset the lost time. However, this has also raised concerns about the fairness and integrity of the scoring system. In response to these allegations, the NTA and government officials have defended the decision to award grace marks. They emphasize that the measure was necessary to maintain fairness for the candidates who were disadvantaged by the delays. Nonetheless, the controversy continues to stir discussions about the impact of such measures on the overall examination process.

Following a report by the Economic Offences Unit (EOU) of the Bihar Police, the investigation into the NEET UG 2024 examination has been handed over to the CBI for a comprehensive probe.

Bihar Police Report Sparks CBI Investigation

On Saturday, the Bihar Police's EOU submitted a detailed report to the Education Ministry regarding alleged malpractices in the NEET UG 2024 exam. This prompted the Education Ministry to transfer the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for a thorough investigation.

In a statement released late Sunday evening in Patna, the EOU confirmed the arrest of five individuals linked to the NEET UG 2024 exam irregularities. These arrests are part of ongoing efforts to identify and prosecute those involved in examination malpractices.
