IIT Kharagpur Has Planned to Set Up Institute in Malaysia to Provide Top Quality Education Institutes Outside of India
IIT is one of the reputed institutes in India. Students who want to take engineering courses at IIT have to write an entrance exam. IIT Kharagpur is a public institute established by the Government of India in Kharagpur. IIT Kharagpur is famous for its engineering courses and is among the top 5 institutes in the NIRF ranking. Candidates must crack both JEE Mains and JEE Advanced to enter IIT Kharagpur.
But those exams are very tough and have a lot of competition, so getting an
engineering admission to IIT Kharagpur is not easy. Candidates can take
admission into IIT without the entrance exam if they opt for courses other than
Engineering.
Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur has decided to set up an
institute in Malaysia. During the 68th convocation, IIT Kharagpur's director

footprint in the international domain of higher education promoting Indian
standards of education."
Based on the recommendation in the National Education Policy (NEP), a
committee was created to expand IITs globally in consultation with Indian
missions abroad. The UK, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Egypt, Thailand, and
Malaysia were discussed. Also, IIT Madras and IIT Delhi are planning to set up
an offshore campus in Abu Dhabi and Tanzania.
The main reason behind this is to set up a top-quality education institute
outside India. He did not mention the timeline for this project, and no
information has been passed on whether it would be a joint venture with any
other institute. While some reports have mentioned that the new campus might be
ready by September 2023.
He said, "From Vinod Gupta to Sundar Pichai, many ex-IIT KGPians,
numbering thousands, brought laurels to the institute. He said they have a
compendium of 75 innovations made by the students, staff, and
researchers. He also listed the innovation success stories in the past
years. Among them, the covirap diagnostic kit was sold at Rs. 6.7 crore. Not
only that, but many other successful innovations also fetched Rs. 1 crore.
Also, they are supporting 25 other identified innovations.
He also spoke about the central policies encouraging the education sector to
embrace the Atma Nirbar Strategy. He said governments and institutes should
collaborate to provide a creative and inventive surge of dynamic education.
Peter Chan, Chief Executive Officer of Herons Bonsai Limited, an IIT alumnus
who passed out in the 1962 batch, was the chief guest of the convocation
ceremony. He said he feels proud that he was molded by IIT Kharagpur.
On the convocation day, nine life fellows of the institute were awarded
along with the 40 alumni. Gold medals were handed over to nine students in
