JEE Main 2023: A plea to postpone the January exam filed!
Concerning the IIT JEE Main 2023 January session, a petition has been filed in the Bombay High Court seeking a postponement. This is done because class 12 pre-board exams are scheduled for next month. Moreover, the plea also seeks relaxation of the 75% criterion to be eligible for the IIT JEE 2023 (Main).
Activist Anubha Srivastava Sahai filed the petition on December 26, 2022, Monday. Several students flooded Twitter with requests to postpone the JEE Main 2023 and to remove the 75% eligibility criterion. The National Testing Agency (NTA) announced recently that the IIT JEE 2023 (Main) will be conducted in two sessions- January and April. Soon after the announcement was made, there was panic among students which made them seek postponement of the January session exam stating less time for preparation.
The students were also hoping that like earlier, the NTA would have released the date sheet of the examination two or three months before. This would have mentally prepared the students as some students have to prepare for the engineering entrance exam along with their 12th boards (pre-boards, viva voce).
Another point in the petition is the removal of the 75% eligibility criterion. This means that students need to have 75% minimum marks to be eligible for appearing in JEE 2023. In the PIL, it was stated that students who can score well in IIT JEE 2023, cannot because they may not have 75% minimum marks on their boards.
Last year, NTA removed this 75% eligibility criterion as a measure due to the academic loss faced by students during the Covid-19 pandemic. The pre-board exams, viva voce of ICSE, CBSE, and other boards are scheduled in January which will supposedly result in a clash between the engineering entrance exam 2023. This clash will see fewer numbers of students appearing in the Mains 2023 (January session).
Joint Entrant Examination (Mains) 2023 is to be conducted in two sessions-
January and April and the January sessions start on January 24, 2023. The aspirants can register themselves on the official website- jeemain.nta.nic.in. The National Testing Agency (NTA) has also announced the registration process will end on January 12, 2023. The admit card for the January session will be out in January’s third week. The candidates can download it from the official website. The answer keys and the recorded responses of the candidates are to be announced later on the same website. And the result will also be declared later on the NTA website.
Recently, after this petition is filed, CBSE announced the date sheets of the Class 10th and 12th board examinations. In the announcement, CBSE stated that the dates for the Class 12th board examination have been set, keeping in mind, competitive exams like IIT JEE 2023. Moreover, the CBSE has announced the date sheets much prior so that students have a good time preparing for their exams. Now the verdict of the court is much awaited whether the court will pass the judgement in favor of the students seeking postponement of the engineering entrance exam (January session) or things remain unchanged.
