JEE Main 2023: NTA Restores 75% Criteria For Admission, Pass Marks Not Enough
The eligibility criteria for the exam remain the same, but the criteria for taking admissions into NIT, IIITs, and GFTIs have been changed. The National Testing Agency (NTA) has restored the 75% eligibility criteria for engineering admission after qualifying for the JEE Mains entrance test.
This was the practice that was followed in the pre
covid years. Since things have started to become normal, the officials decided to
reinstate the eligibility criteria followed before the pandemic.
75% Criteria
Before filling up the application, candidates
should know the new rules. Admission to BE/ B.Tech/ B.Arch/ B.Plan and the
courses in NITs, IITs, and CFT are participating through the central seat
allocation board.
It will be based on All India Rank Subject to the
condition that the candidate should have scored at least 75% in the class 12th
board examination conducted by their respective board. For SC/ ST candidates,
the qualifying score is 65%. Also, the candidate should have passed each
subject in class 12 or the qualifying examination as per the official
statement.
Admission Criteria in Previous Years
In 2022, admission to institutes was given only
based on All India Rank in JEE main. This 75 % criterion was not applied to
states or private institutions as they were free to see their own condition for
student admission.
75% Criterion was Removed From JEE Main in 2020
In 2020, Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal
'Nishank' relaxed the norms of admission for centrally funded institutions
because of the ongoing COVID - 19 pandemic, which has resulted in the closure
of schools, colleges, and many more educational institutions across the
country.
Only pass marks were required for admission. This
continued for JEE Main 2021 and 2022.
JEE Main 2023 Eligibility Criteria to Appear in the Exam
The eligibility criteria for JEE Main 2023 remain
the same. Candidates who passed class 12 exams in 2021 or 2022 or appearing in
2023 can take the entrance test. Although there is no age limit to appear for
the JEE Main entrance test, candidates might be required to fulfill the age
criterion set by educational institutions for students’ admission.
The JEE exam 2023 will be held in two sessions. The first
session will be conducted between January 24 to January 31, 2023, and the
second session will be conducted between April 6 to April 12, 2023. Engineering
