JEE Mains 2023 Exam: Marks Relaxation Introduced For Top 20 Percentile Board Students
A few days back, the National Testing Agency (NTA) announced that IIT aspirants should have scored at least 75% marks in their class 12 examination. This has affected many candidates. Hence the marks relaxation has been introduced for top 20 percentile board students.
As per the official notification released by the
Ministry of Education sources, the top 20 percentile of each education board is
now eligible to get admission in IITs and NITs for JEE Advanced even if the
candidate has not scored 75% marks in their class 12.
This decision has come against the backdrop of the
constant demands for the relaxation of JEE (Advanced) eligibility criteria, as
it requires at least 75% marks in aggregate in class 12 exams conducted by the
respective education boards.
According to the statement released by the National
Testing Agency (NTA), "As per the information bulletin of Joint Entrance
Examination (Main) - 2023, the candidates who qualify for admission to NITs/
IITs and CFTIs and for admissions based on JEE (Main) rank, should have secured
at least 75% marks in the class 12 examination conducted by the respective
boards".
Now, NTA receives numerous representations from the
stakeholders as per the change of criteria of 75% marks in the class 12
examination. Taking consideration to the above information and the interest of
students, the eligibility criteria for admission to NITs, HIITs, and CFTI
participating through Central Seat Allocation (CSA) board have been given
below:
For the candidates who qualify for admission in
NITs, IIITs, and CFTIs whose admissions are based on JEE Main marks, should
have scored at least 75% marks in the Class 12 exams or they should be in the
top 20 percentile in the class 12 exams conducted by the respective boards. SC/
SC candidates should have scored at least 65% marks in the class 12 exam.
The online registration for the JEE Main exam was
completed on January 12, 2023. The exam will be conducted between January 24,
2023, to January 31, 2023. As per the information bulletin, admission to B.E./
B.Tech/ B.Arch/ B.Planning in IIITs, NITs, and CFTIs through the central
allocation board will be based on the All India Rank (AIR), and the eligibility
criteria is at least 75% marks in the class 12 examination conducted by the
respective boards.
With this top 20 percentile criteria, candidates
who have a shortage of 75% aggregate in their class 12 boards will get
benefitted. The discussions were held because many of the top 20 percentile
candidates in the number of state boards scored below 75% or 350 marks.
Therefore the ministry decided that if the candidate is in the top 20
percentile, he or she will be eligible for admission.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, the Bombay High Court
refused to defer JEE Main Exam scheduled for later this month. Justice Sandeep
Marne and Division Bench of Chief Justice S V Gangapurwala said that it would
not be appropriate to postpone the exam because of the Public interest litigation
