Meet IPS officer Sanjukta Parashar whose name instills fear among terrorists

Sanjukta Parashar, an Assam-based IPS officer, stands out as a symbol of courage and resolve in combating terrorism. Her tireless operations in Assam's forested areas, equipped with an AK-47, have established her as a potent adversary against disruptive forces. Within a brief span of 15 months, her accomplishments are remarkable: eliminating 16 terrorists, apprehending more than 64, and confiscating significant caches of arms and ammunition. Her reputation alone instills dread among militant groups operating in the area.

Hailing from Assam, Sanjukta Parashar demonstrated academic excellence throughout her educational journey. She completed her early schooling in her home state before moving to Delhi, where she obtained her bachelor's degree in Political Science from Indraprastha College. Continuing her academic pursuits, she advanced to Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) for her postgraduate studies in International Relations. Parashar's scholarly achievements culminated in an MPhil and a doctorate, both focusing on US Foreign Policy.

Sanjukta's path to the Indian Police Service (IPS) commenced with her impressive performance in the All India Civil Services Examination, where she ranked 85th. This achievement placed her in the 2006 IPS batch. She opted for the Assam-Meghalaya cadre, setting the stage for a career that would be distinguished by numerous noteworthy accomplishments.

Sanjukta's career in law enforcement began in 2008 with her appointment as Assistant Commandant in Makum, Assam. She was quickly thrust into action, tasked with quelling conflicts between Bodos and Bangladeshis in Udalguri. Her subsequent role as Superintendent of Police (SP) in Assam's Sonitpur district saw her leading CRPF teams in direct confrontations with Bodo militants. Notably, she personally participated in these operations, wielding an AK-47. Her frontline leadership during these missions gained widespread attention when images circulated on social media platforms.

Undaunted by numerous death threats from militant groups, Sanjukta Parashar continued her mission. In 2015, she led a major anti-Bodo terrorist operation, resulting in the elimination of 16 militants within a 15-month period. Her team's efforts also led to the arrest of 64 Bodo militants and the seizure of substantial weaponry. Her track record of success extended to previous years, with 175 terrorist arrests in 2014 and 172 in 2013.

While renowned for her formidable presence in law enforcement, Sanjukta also demonstrates a softer side. During her off-duty hours, she frequently volunteers at relief camps, offering support to those in need. She characterizes herself as modest and caring, stressing that her stern demeanor is reserved solely for lawbreakers. In her own words, only those engaged in criminal activities have cause for concern in her presence.
