NEET-PG 2024 Exam Postponed Due to Security Concerns

The National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test for Postgraduates (NEET-PG 2024), which was scheduled for June 23, 2024 was cancelled just hours before it was to take place. This decision was made due to credible intelligence suggesting possible attempts at impersonation or manipulation during the computer-based test. According to a report by The Economic Times, there was no actual leak of the exam, but the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) decided to postpone the exam as a precautionary measure.

Reason for Postponement

A senior official explained that while there was no leak, there were credible complaints and intelligence inputs about potential impersonation at some exam centres. This prompted the decision to postpone the exam to ensure its integrity.

Late on June 22, the government issued a press release announcing the postponement of the NEET-PG 2024 exam. The statement highlighted recent incidents that raised concerns about the integrity of competitive exams. To address these concerns and protect the interests of the students, the Health Ministry decided to thoroughly review the exam process. The new date for the NEET-PG 2024 exam has been set for August 11.

Importance of NEET-PG

The NEET-PG 2024 exam is highly important for medical graduates. Over 240,000 candidates will compete for around 24,000 MD seats, 12,600 MS seats, and 900 PG Diploma seats across various medical institutions. The scores from NEET-PG 2024 are crucial for admission to postgraduate medical programs in both government and private institutions.

In addition to the NEET-PG, the Centre recently informed the Supreme Court about the NEET-UG 2024 counselling schedule. The counselling for NEET-UG is set to start in the third week of July. The dates for the second round of registration will be announced later, with the third round expected to begin by the second week of September.
