In a significant update for medical aspirants across India, the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has officially released the tentative schedule for the NEET UG Counselling 2024. Round 1 Registration and Key Dates
The NEET UG Counselling for 2024 will kick off with the Round 1 registration process, which is scheduled to begin on August 14 and will remain open until August 21, 2024. Candidates interested in pursuing medical courses must complete their registration within this window to participate in the counselling process. ollowing the registration phase, the choice filling and locking facility will be available from August 16 to August 20, 2024.
This period allows candidates to select and lock in their preferred colleges and courses. It is crucial for candidates to make informed decisions during this stage, as the choices they make will significantly impact their seat allotment. Once the choice filling phase concludes, the MCC will process the seat allotment from August 21 to August 22, 2024. This step involves a detailed evaluation of candidates' preferences, NEET UG scores, and seat availability to determine the best possible match for each candidate.The eagerly awaited results of the first round of seat allotment will be announced on August 23, 2024. Successful candidates will then be required to report to their allotted institutes between August 24 and August 29, 2024. This reporting period is critical for confirming their admission and securing their seats in the respective courses.For those candidates who join after the first allotment, verification will take place from August 30-31, 2024. This step ensures that all the necessary documentation and eligibility criteria are met before the finalization of admissions.
Round 2 Counselling Schedule
The second round of NEET UG counselling will follow closely on the heels of the first round. Registration for Round 2 is slated for September 4-5, 2024. Candidates who were unable to secure a seat in the first round or those looking for better options can participate in this round.
The seat allotment process for Round 2, including verification, will be conducted from September 11-12, 2024. Candidates allotted seats in this round must report to their respective institutions by September 14-20, 2024.The NEET UG 2024 counselling is expected to fill approximately 1.10 lakh MBBS seats across around 710 medical colleges nationwide. Additionally, counselling will be conducted for 21,000 BDS seats and various Ayush and Nursing seats, providing a wide array of opportunities for aspiring medical students. This extensive allocation of seats underscores the Indian government's commitment to expanding access to medical education. In a recent statement to the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Anupriya Patel, emphasized the government's dedication to safeguarding the interests of the student community. The minister highlighted that measures are being implemented to ensure fair and transparent processes in medical admissions, aligning with the government's commitment to the welfare of students.
The government has also reported a remarkable increase in medical colleges and seats over the past decade. Since 2014, the number of medical colleges has surged by 88%, rising from 387 to 731 institutions. Similarly, MBBS seats have witnessed a 118% increase, growing from 51,348 before 2014 to 1,12,112 in 2024. This expansion is a testament to the government's focus on enhancing healthcare education infrastructure.
