NEET UG 2024:SC HEARING PLEAS REGARDING NEET UG 2024

Today, during the NEET-UG 2024 exam hearing, the Supreme Court acknowledged that the exam paper was leaked. The court has asked for details on the number of people who benefited from the leak and what actions have been taken against them. Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud, leading a three-judge panel, stated that if the leak spread through electronic means like Telegram and WhatsApp, it would have spread very quickly. The court has ordered the National Testing Agency (NTA) to provide relevant information, with the next hearing set for July 11.The panel also included Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra. Many students and coaching centers have filed petitions against the NEET-UG 2024 results, citing issues such as paper leaks, manipulation of OMR sheets, impersonation, and cheating. Lawyers for one petitioner are requesting the exam be canceled due to these concerns. CJI Chandrachud indicated that if the leak spread via social media it would have fired up.

Meanwhile, the Union government has shown reluctance to re-conduct the NEET-UG 2024. In its submission to the Supreme Court, the government argued that canceling the exam would "seriously jeopardize the lakhs of honest candidates" who took the test on May 5. Both the central government and the NTA have submitted documents opposing the cancellation, stating that the alleged cheating incidents are isolated and do not justify scrapping the entire exam, which would harm many students who took the  NEET UG 2024 Examination on May 5th.

The Supreme Court's deep dive into this issue underscores the seriousness of the allegations. By requiring the NTA to disclose information about the leak and its beneficiaries, the court emphasizes the need for transparency in the exam process. While the petitioners believe the integrity of NEET-UG 2024 has been compromised, the government and NTA argue that canceling the exam would unfairly punish the majority of honest candidates. The hearing on July 11 will be critical in deciding the next steps.
