No change in JEE Main session 1 date, the next hearing is on February 21
Recently, a plea seeking postponement of the JEE Main exam session 1 was filed in the Bombay High Court. The court has given another date for the hearing i.e., 21 February 2023. In the plea, the argument was that most of the state boards have their pre-board and board examination scheduled in January 2023, the same when the JEE Mains 2023 session 1 exam are scheduled. The plea was filed because this issue will make it difficult for the students to appear in the JEE Mains session 1 exam.
There is only one relaxation given to the JEE aspirants in the recent hearing which is- relaxation in the eligibility criteria for both JEE Mains and JEE Advanced. It states that apart from students scoring 75 percent and above in their Class 12 Board, the top 20 percentile in each board will also be eligible to appear in the exams and can also seek admissions in the top colleges/ institutions that come under the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE). But the dates for the JEE Mains 2023 exams (January session) remain unchanged and the exam will be conducted as scheduled.
Activist Anubha Srivastava Sahai is the one who filed the petition seeking the postponement of the JEE Mains January session exams and relaxation of the 75 percent eligibility criteria. He also added that several JEE aspirants won’t be able to appear in the exam ruining their future. This came when the National Testing Agency (NTA) announced that the Mains 2023 will be conducted in two sessions namely, Session 1 (January) and Session 2 (April). And the January exam dates are such that they will supposedly clash with the pre-board and board examinations of many state boards.
Beware of fake news: In the middle of the situation, a fake notice has been circulated on Twitter stating that the NTA has decided to postpone the January session exam dates. But the students must know that there has been no such announcement by the NTA.
Seeing the hardships faced by students, many higher authorities have urged the Education Minister of India Dharmendra Pradhan to interfere in the matter and help students by relaxing the eligibility criteria for the students appearing in the exam. Moreover, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has also requested the NTA to reconsider the JEE Mains 2023 exam dates for the January session.
The JEE (Main) 2023 will serve the purpose of the aspirants to take admission in IITs, NITs, and CIFTs offering courses such as B.E., B. Tech, B. Arc, etc. This comes with a criterion that the candidate should have scored at least 75 percent and above in the Class 12 Board Examination. The qualifying marks change to 65 percent for SC/ST candidates. Only last year, the NTA removed this 75% criterion citing education loss by students due to the covid-19 pandemic.
For now, the application process for the JEE Mains 2023 has ended on January 12, 2023. The admit card will be made available to the candidates in the third week of January. They can download it from the official website of NTA- jeemain.nta.nic.in.
