Strategies to crack IELTS in one go- IELTS Exam 2023 Updates

What is IELTS? The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is a group of tests of international value to check proficiency in the English Language. Countries like Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the UK, the US, etc. where English is the most spoken language, accept the IELTS exam.

The exam has 2 modules-

Academic module, and

General module

The academic module is for those who wish to enroll in universities for higher education and for professionals who want to work or practice abroad. While the general module is for those who want to train themselves in the non-academic field or have some work experience, etc.

There is a separate test, called, IELST Life Skills, offered by the IELST group.

The IELTS exam consists of 4 sections-

1. Listening

2. Reading

3. Writing

4. Speaking

The test is 2 hours and 45 minutes long. Test takers complete their Listening, Reading, and Writing in one go. Listening and Speaking tests are the same for all but the Reading and Writing tests depend on whether the test taker has applied for the Academic or general module. Universities/institutions accept different IELTS scores as per their eligibility criteria.

The good thing is that there is no pass or fail. Test takers receive a score on a nine-band scale. The 0-9 score in each section is then averaged and rounded off to get the overall band score.

As IELTS Exam 2023 is getting started from January 7, 2023, and for more dates, go through their official website. There are various strategies/tips which would help you to crack the IELTS exam in one go-

What is better than practice? It is a known fact that one can achieve anything with consistent practice. Reading new words every day- learning deeper knowledge by studying their synonyms, usage, grammar, pronunciation, etc. Practicing listening, reading, writing, and speaking skills are a must. The best and easiest way to improve your listening skills is by watching English movies/shows, listening to English songs, etc. Reading requires good time management i.e., reading speed. IELTS has long passages and less time. For that- art of skimming plays a vital role. Writing can only be made better by studying grammar, spelling, and good vocabulary. The more you communicate, the more you will be confident while speaking. Be normal, speak as you do every day, and never do extra to impress the experts.

Attempt all questions- good news! There is no negative marking in the exam. So, attempt all questions, you may get lucky. To acing this strategy, one has to be quick in reading the questions and answering them. Regular practice of taking mock tests is going to help a lot.

Speed matters- As we know that IELTS is a time-bound test (2 hrs 45 minutes), so the speed with accuracy should be on point. And the number of questions is more in comparison to the time given. So, if you are not able to handle the time and pressure of the exam, it is going to be difficult to crack the test.

Practice IELTS mock papers- Solving mocks for any exam is a must thing to do. It helps you to understand the exam pattern, aware of the level of questions, and gradually build your confidence to sit in the actual exam.

Cracking the IELTS exam on the first attempt is no joke, but following these strategies/tips would definitely help and will reflect in the results also. And above all, it is ‘You’ who can make this happen. Just reading the tips won’t help unless you firmly implement them daily.
