There's No Planning to Conduct PCS Exam 2024

The Panjab Public Service Commission(PPSC) has announced that there are no plans to organize the Punjab State Civil Services(PCS) Combined Competitive examination this year because the state government has not made any request for a state PCS examination yet. This news is a significant disappointment for aspiring candidates who are aiming for Group A positions in the state.

Appointments for Group A positions, such as sub-divisional magistrate, deputy superintendent of police, tehsildar, food supply and consumer affairs officer, block development and panchayat officer, and deputy superintendent of jails, are made through this examination.

At the press conference on Thursday, July 11, PPSC Chairman Jatinder Aulakh mentioned that the state government had not yet asked the commission to conduct an examination. However, he stated that if the government does request it, they will proceed with the exam. He also noted that new PCS officers from the current government cadre would be promoted soon. An examination for the promotion category is scheduled for July 14, and only government employees who have completed a certain number of years in service are eligible to participate.

Meanwhile, aspiring candidates expressed their disappointment, mentioning that they had been preparing for the examination in the hope that a notification would be issued soon. Efforts to reach Shruti Singh, secretary of the Department of Personnel, were unsuccessful despite repeated attempts.

It has been four years since the previous PCS exam, which took place in 2020 and was held for a total of 75 available positions.

Amrinder Singh,29 years, a hopeful from Patiala, said, “For the past four years, we've been eagerly anticipating the PCS exam. The lack of clarity from the Punjab government and the PPSC is becoming disheartening.”

Paramveer Singh, 23 years, a recent graduate from Patiala, mentioned, “I've dedicated the last six months to preparation. It's uncertain how much longer we will be left waiting for the notification. Similar to the UPSC, the PCS exam should be conducted on a regular basis.”
