UGC-NET Paper Leak: CBI found evidence of doctored screenshot, fellowship of JRF students has also been stuck due to this
The University Grants Commission National Eligibility
Test (UGC-NET) which was held on June 18 declared cancelled by the Union Government
on June 19 because of a circulating screenshot of UGC-NET question paper
which shows that screenshot of the question paper was taken on June 17.
On July 10 CBI declared that the screenshot which had
been making conspiracy of the paper leak was altered by a young person by using
a mobile editing application to make it seem like the question paper was accessible
before the examination. he had made that to make people believe that they have early
asses to that question paper and make money through it.
The UGC-NET 2024 exam was scheduled to happen on June
18, for which around 11 lakhs of candidates registered themselves self and over
nine lakh candidates appeared for the examination across 317 cities, the exam
was conducted between 9.30 am to 12.30 pm in the first session and between 3 pm
to 6 pm in the second session.
After the examination, a screenshot of the UGC-NET
question paper was circulated on Telegram, after getting this news Union Home
Ministry alerted the National Testing Agency (NTA) about the possible security
breach, after getting the news the Ministry of Education cancelled the exam following
the alert it received from the MHA’s National Cyber Crime Threat Analytics Unit
of the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C).
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), after
taking up the investigation on June 23, is now likely to file charges against
the person who spread a doctored UGC-NET question paper in an attempt to cheat.
“The UGC received certain inputs from the I4C under the MHA on the examination.
These inputs prima facie indicate that the integrity of the aforesaid
examination may have been compromised.” Said the Ministry of Education.
Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) is considering
returning to its previous practice of conducting its own entrance exams for PhD
admissions rather than relying on UGC NET scores, as stated by the JNU
Teachers’ Association.
According to
JNU's Vice-Chancellor, Santishree D Pandit, no final decision has been reached,
and the university administration is currently soliciting feedback from
stakeholders. This consideration arises from the delays in admissions caused by
the wait for NTA's entrance exam results and the impact on JRF student
fellowships.
