UPSC Combined Defense Services Exam (CDS) 2024 is all set to be conducted on 21^st April through pen and paper mode. The officers will be selected for the vacant seats in Indian Military Academy, the Naval Academy, the Air Force Academy and the Officers' Training Academy. The selection process includes written examination, SSB interview, medical examination and the final merit list is released on the official website of UPSC. This CDS 2 exam will be conducted through pen and paper format. Successful candidates can take admission to the Indian Military Academy, Indian Naval Academy, and Air Force Academy, with the exam lasting for 6 hours. For those aiming for the Officers' Training Academy, the written exam will be 4 hours long.

 

Pattern:-

The CDS (Combined Defence Services) exam pattern serves as the gateway to prestigious military institutions such as the Indian Military Academy, Indian Naval Academy, Air Force Academy, and Officers’ Training Academy. Divided into two phases, the selection process is conducted through a traditional pen-and-paper offline format.

Candidates undergo assessments in English, General Knowledge, and Mathematics, with each subject having a duration of two hours and carrying 100 marks. These assessments are tailored to suit the requirements of different academy entries. This pattern evaluates candidates on fundamental subjects and plays a pivotal role in grooming future officers for the Indian Armed Forces.

The SSB Test/Interview, spanning five days and carrying 300 marks, is a crucial component of the selection process for all academies. This phase evaluates candidates' linguistic, general awareness, and mathematical abilities, while also focusing on their overall personality traits and suitability for military service. It ensures a comprehensive assessment of candidates' capabilities and potential as prospective officers in the Indian Armed Forces.

UPSC CDS 2 Exam Date and selection process :-

The commission has announced the exam date for the UPSC CDS 2 2024 examination. According to the notice, the exam will take place on April 21, 2024. The first phase of the CDS selection process is the CDS written exam. In this exam, candidates will receive one mark for each correct answer, and 0.33 marks will be deducted for each incorrect answer as a penalty. The CDS examination pattern varies for admission to the Indian Military Academy (IMA), Indian Naval Academy (INA), Air Force Academy (AFA), and Officers’ Training Academy (OTA). The following subjects are considered for these academies.

For selection in Officers’ Training Academy, following pattern is followed:-

The Officers’ Training Academy (OTA) written examination comprises two papers, with a total of 200 marks. Candidates who achieve the minimum qualifying marks in this examination will proceed to the next stage, that is interview round.

SSB Interview:-

Candidates who pass the written examination proceed to the Service Selection Board (SSB) for the intelligence and personality test. Allocation to the SSB is based on candidates' preferences and determined by the respective service headquarters. The SSB Interview for CDS 2024 consists of two stages:

 Stage I: This includes an officer intelligence rating, picture perception, and description test.

 Stage II: Candidates undergo a psychology test, interview, group testing officer task, and conference.

The SSB Interview is a comprehensive process conducted over five days at designated SSB Centers .For candidates who have selected the Army (IMA/OTA) as their first choice and have qualified in the written examination, registering on the recruiting directorate website www.joinindianarmy.nic.in is mandatory. This registration ensures they receive necessary call-up information for the SSB Interview. Candidates who have already registered on the recruiting directorate website should not register again.
