The notification and registration have been released by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) regarding the UPSC Civil Services Examination (CSE) Prelims 2023 stating the complete eligibility criteria for the 1st phase of the exam.

These phases are conducted to fill the vacancies in the UPSC’s various departments which includes Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and Indian Police Service (IPS)

Among these, UPSC IAS Exam is the most difficult exam to crack in India. Such exams have a very particular syllabus and extremely strict selection criteria and require full dedication while preparing for them. Mostly it takes more than one attempt by candidates to clear such tough exams.

But now it is clearly stated in the eligibility criteria of UPSC CSE Exam 2023 that the aspirants will have a fixed number of attempts to clear the exam. An age limit of 32 years for the general category aspirants has also been set which they have to adhere to.

To be specific below is the category-wise age limit for the UPSC aspirants-

  • For General Category and EWS, the age limit is 21 to 32 years
  • For OBC (with certificate), the age limit is 21 to 35 years
  • For SC/ST, the age limit is 21 to 37 years
  • For the physically disabled, the age limit is 21 to 42 years.
  • For Jammu & Kashmir Domicile, the age limit is 21 to 37 years (3 years, if OBC or 5 years, if SC/ST)
  • For Disabled and discharged Defence service personnel, the age limit is 21 to 35 years (+3 years, if Gen/OBC or 5 years, if SC/ST)
  • For Ex-Servicemen Commission Officers, the age limit is 21 to 37 years +3 years, if OBC or 5 years, if SC/ST)

No. of attempts for aspirants-

In the eligibility criteria of the UPSC CSE Exam 2023, it is mentioned that the no. of attempts allowed for the General category and EWS category to appear in the exam is 6 times.

Nine attempts will be allowed for candidates to appear in the exam belonging to the OBC category and Divyang candidates of the General, EWS, and OBC categories.

UPSC CSE is the premier examination that is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). The UPSC CSE examination is a test of the candidate's knowledge, aptitude, and other skills relevant to being serviceable in a particular branch of administration. The results of this examination are used as a basis for appointment to various government posts. UPSC CSE is conducted every year by the Union Public Service Commission in different subjects such as English Language, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude, etc. All candidates who wish to apply for the position of a government servant with the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), Indian Police Service (IPS)/ Indian Forest Service (IFS)/ Central Vigilance Commission (CVC), and Indian Railway Recruitment Board/ Rural Development Departments must take the UPSC CSE Examination.
